allocation of tax dollars

as i write this, i’m trying to finish development of the permuta site so i’m not going to spend a lot of time on analysis and commentary.

here is how the federal government of the United States spent tax dollars in 2018.

my quick response: too much on war; not enough on education, environment, and health.

this is part of why i’m building permuta. i’m not interested in writing letters, signing petitions, and marching around for hours essentially begging for money i’ve handed over in taxes to be used the way i think would benefit us the most.

i’m perfectly capable of managing my own resources and putting time and energy into things that help myself and the community at large. in the words of Sven (Christopher Meloni) in the film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: I’m in charge.

i’m not against taxation and this site was not designed to get around it. but when i pay something, i’m used to knowing and controlling what i am paying for. i know we have the technology to make a more equitable system of decision-making. and i know the reason it hasn’t been implemented is that governments, at some level, just want us to let them handle it.

i am sure they will find a way to listen better and be a little more prudent with the expenditures once the cash flow wanes…
